A successful modernisation of the classic western swing style with stellar picking by everyone. Vassar's fiddle and vocals take center stage on many songs, but Bromberg's acoustic and Doug Jernigan's pedal steel get plenty of room to shine, too.
In short: hot swinging fun stuff!
Volume 1 already appeared on the - only shortlived - last incarnation of the Hideaway. Not too long ago i came across Volume 2, so here it is. Both albums stem from one session and where actually issued on a double vinyl album by Flying Fish in the US. Only Sonet Records in the UK split them into two volumes.

Glad to see your blog back! Do you have the Al Gafa Quinteto - Leblon Beach (1976) album, please? I think it may have been available here at one time, but not sure. Many thanks.
It was, indeed.
Will dig it out and make it the first re-post here.
May take a few days.
Bromberg's last Song For Shelby Jean is one of my favorite songs and his collaboration with Clements on it and this album is superb. Thanks so much for posting it. It is a true gem.
You're welcome, Feilimid.
Thank you for response re Al Gafa - will look forward to it!
"Hillbilly Jazz" is one of my very favorite genres so you're preaching to the choir on this one as far as I'm concerned. I have a complete copy of both volumes @320K so I'm really happy to get your vinyl rip of vol 2 to go with vol 1 that I also got from you. Thank you! I fell in love with "Hillbilly Jazz" from a Vassar album I bought in the early 80's called "Nashville Jam". Doug Jernigan just blew me away on pedal steel on that album as well as here (and anywhere else you hear him for that matter), he is one of the very best pedal steel players in the world and a pioneer on playing fast, single line jazz melodies on the pedal steel. There is also a Facebook site dedicated to him. He's still alive, kickin' and jammin' his ass off.
