Gorgeous harp instrumentals, enriched by flute, bass, bagpipes, drums etc.
Obviously influenced by Alan Stivell's groundbreaking "Renaissance of the Celtic Harp", Pol and Hervé Quefféléant (appearing under the group name "An Triskell") approached Gaelic/Breton folk music with respect for the tradition but also many ideas on how to create a more contemporary sound. Thus the instrumentation includes electric bass, drums and cello next to such obscure French traditional intruments as cornemuse (French bagpipes) and bombarde (a reed instrument).
The whole record has a unifying feeling, like a kind of "folk-suite". Right from the first track a solemn and reflective - dare i say "pastoral"? - athmosphere is established that holds the album together. Which is not to say that there isn't plenty of variety thanks to the colourful instrumentation and a few livelier pieces. Imagine a soundtrack for a movie about the old Celts or a Robin Hood adventure and you get the idea.
Another excellent piece from Le Chant Du Monde's "Special Instrumental" series.

I've enjoyed the Alan Stivel record for years - looking forward to this one.
My pleasure, rebf942.
This was certainly nicely done. For me it's better suited to background than foreground listening and I agree with you 100% that it feels and sounds just like a movie soundtrack. Thanks for another fine post LPR!
Fantastic really great. I've heard a fair bit of harp music this holiday season but it's nice to hear non-holiday themed songs on harp. Thanks for sharing LPR your album finds never disappoint and I can't wait for more in the New Year!
Thanks for that one!
Here's another one for you to enjoy:

Keep up the good work!
Many thanks owlface! I haven't listen to it yet, but i'm really curious what they sound like in 1991!
I do have another Triskell album on Chant du Monde called "Kroaz Bent", but i found that one rather dissapointing. Maybe i'll post it one day.
Please do!
I have ripped that one myself, but the (music library) vinyl was in a deplorable state...
Would like to hear yours and hope it's better than mine.
In the mean time, here's a 1990 cd reissue of the album you have posted, filled out with half of Kroaz'hent; they seem to have included every other track of it:

Thanks owlface!
Kroaz hent will take a while. Will share the tracks missing from your cd. Check the comments here, don't think i'll bring it to the front.
